This project was one we were genuinely excited to take on from the very beginning. Our clients live full-time in Littleton, and this home is their mountain escape and a place where they gather with their (now grown) four children to unplug, slow down, and soak in the beauty of Grand Lake, Colorado. Tucked into a small subdivision just off the lake, the home had great bones and a stunning setting, but it was ready for a thoughtful refresh.
When the clients originally purchased the house years ago, it came fully furnished and fully themed. Nearly every light switch, tissue box, comforter and rug was covered, and bear and moose motifs made frequent appearances throughout the home. Combined with dark woodwork, heavy furniture, and dated finishes, each room felt dark, heavy, and disconnected from the incredible landscape just outside the windows.
Our goal was to create a mountain modern retreat that honored the existing architecture and rustic charm while bringing the home into a more contemporary, livable place. We brightened and softened the interiors with paint, replaced most light fixtures, updated all window coverings with motorized shades, and refreshed fixtures, finishes, and furniture throughout. Just as importantly, we layered in personal touches in every room to reflect the family and how they truly live in the space.
Today, the home feels cozy, updated, and intentionally rustic without being themed, modern without losing its warmth. It’s a place the family loves returning to on weekends and holidays, and one they’re proud to share with friends and extended family. A true mountain getaway designed for gathering, relaxing, and making memories.
