This commercial project was a collaborative effort between our team, the architect (Cahen Architectural Group), and the school owner to create a space that balanced program requirements with personality and warmth. While The Goddard School has established standards that guide classroom layouts, materials, and functionality, our clients were eager to move beyond a one-size-fits-all approach and create an environment that felt thoughtful, inspiring, and unique to their community.
From the outset, our role was to help interpret the “Goddard Standard” in a way that still allowed for creativity. One of the most meaningful design elements was the use of reclaimed gym flooring within the classrooms, a material choice that brought warmth, character, and a sense of history into the already historical building, while remaining durable enough for daily use by young students.
Throughout the project, we worked closely with the builder to ensure all finish selections aligned with budget parameters without sacrificing design intent. By being strategic about material choices and prioritizing high-impact areas, we were able to deliver spaces that feel both playful and polished, functional and expressive.
The result is a learning environment that supports the school’s educational programs while also reflecting the owner’s vision—an engaging, welcoming space where children, teachers, and families feel excited to walk through the doors each day.
